L: Yes.

B: Okay. Let's go back in time. Let's move back to your being inside this round place. What's it look like inside? Are there any chairs or couches?

L: Hallways. Narrow hallways. There are doors. Funny doors, rounded doors. Don't see any doorknobs but I can see that they are doorways.

B: So this is something like a building?

L: It might be a building—a round building. There's no corners and I don't see any. That's funny. No corners.

Next, I moved Linda further back in time to where she was immediately before she was taken into this "round building with no corners." With no hesitation, she described how the Cortile family had gone to Raven Hall, a swimming pool in Brooklyn's Coney Island. It was an outing she was very much looking forward to. "My friends are there. The whole neighborhood goes there. And there's that boxing. . . punching bag. I want to play around with that, too. I want to punch it and see if I—if I can do as well as my cousin Michael."

She goes into a small, individual changing room in the women's section and is about to untie her sneakers when the door starts to open. "I said, 'Ma?' I'm calling my mother. 'Would you please tell Cookie to stop that—opening up my door?' Then my sister yells back, 'I'm not anywheres near your room.' And we're all next to one another. They're like, almost stalls, but like pretty stalls. And the door keeps opening and then I called out to my mother again and she didn't answer me this time. And the door is all the way opened. Why is the door opening? I had a latch on it. There's a latch on the door from the inside. How did that happen? Who's out there? So I get up to see who opened the door. And—and I don't see anybody, so I look behind the door . . . and there's somebody standing there. Tsk. I've never seen him before. Why isn't he in a bathing suit? And who is that? I don't know who that is. It's no one from my neighborhood. And he looked at me and behind him was another man just like him . . . tall, this isn't a fantasy . . . no. And they said, 'It's time to go.' And I don't know what they're talking about and I said, 'I'm not allowed to go with strangers. You better go away before I go and get my dad, and my uncle Mike and my uncle Dominic and my uncle Salvatore . . . everybody's here!' And they said, 'No. It's time to go.' And I said, 'Go where?' and they just said, 'It's time to go.' I felt I had to go. I don't know why I felt that way. I never talked to strangers. But I had to go."

B: What are these men wearing? Or do they have bathing suits on?

L: No. They were wearing . . .
